A Message from our President & CEO

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

Dear valued friends, supporters, and partners of Waste Not,

As I look back on the last 16 years, my tenure with Waste Not has been nothing short of pure joy, exciting challenge, and fulfillment. To say that my connection to this organization, its mission, and the community built around it extends far beyond my professional career would be an understatement.

Feeding the hungry has been my personal passion for as long as I can remember. I have been privileged enough to be at the helm of this highly respected and revered organization for nearly two decades, persevering – thanks to a truly dedicated team – through the challenges and rejoicing in the incredible achievements and progress made in serving our mission of filling empty plates in our Valley. From one truck to six trucks, and from feeding hundreds to feeding tens of thousands, we’ve done a lot with a little and for that, I am proud.

It is with a heavy heart that I share my decision to soon resign from my position as President and CEO of Waste Not and retire, to spend more time with my family, whose support has been instrumental in and out of the “office” all these years. I am deeply grateful, thankful and honored to have been a part of such an outstanding team and network of supporters, and I wish Waste Not only the finest in future endeavors.

Looking forward, the executive search for the new President and CEO is well underway by the Waste Not Board of Directors’ Executive Committee. I intend to proceed full steam ahead in my role through the Board’s selecting and hiring of my successor, as well as hands-on in the training and transitioning with the Waste Not staff every step of the way. Additionally, I’d be remiss if I did not mention that I am confident that the organization is well-prepared for this transition, with the internal team, infrastructure, Board of Directors and resources necessary to drive it successfully into the future. Following my departure, I plan to remain a close friend, advocate, supporter, and advisor.

With heartfelt gratitude and thanks,

Dee Mitten
