Message from the Director

Hello Everyone ~

Dee Mitten

It hardly seems possible that another year is closing in on us.  2011 has been a year of contrasts for Waste Not.  The ongoing economic struggles of so many of our friends and neighbors have not diminished and the outlook for the coming year is less than hopeful in many quarters.  We have been blessed that food donations have been steady.

We are thrilled and grateful beyond measure to announce that we completed another matching funds campaign this year, raising a total of $55,000, for the purchase in September of our badly-needed final replacement refrigerated truck.  This is a true milestone in the history of our organization as we are now operating with a new or nearly new fleet of refrigerated trucks, safely and efficiently delivering 6-7,000 pounds of food daily to our hungry neighbors who depend upon us daily for hope as well as sustenance.

I’d like to point out that although we completed this very successful matching funds campaign, we have not gone unscathed.  We are experiencing a downturn in our donations and ask that you remember us as you begin to make your end-of-the-year giving decisions.  Please remember that the smallest gift will help us keep our trucks on the road and that your $1 donation will help us feed 6-7 people.  Don’t forget that you can also support Waste Not and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on your Arizona taxes, through the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit.  This credit is in addition to the public and private school tax credit.

We thank you for your kindness and for your generosity and we ask you to keep Waste Not and the people we serve in your thoughts and in your prayers at this most blessed time of year.  We wish you all the joys and blessings of the coming season.

Very sincerely,

Dee Mitten
